Custom Sherpa Flap hats

Minocqua, one of the best small lake towns in the country, is also the home of one of the best pond hockey tournaments in the country. Each year on the first weekend of February teams come from far and wide to take advantage of the perfect ice and atmosphere on Minocqua Lake. This event is filled with 4 different playing brackets, live music and special beer from Rocky Reef Brewing.

Working with Great Lakes on this tournament hat project was a dream come true compared to past experiences in the apparel world.

Not only was the whole process of ordering and design seamless, but Dan and his team basically helped me invent a new hat style that only existed in my brain before they helped bring it to life.

Our Process

The founder of APH, Will, asked us to make a unique hat for all players that would complement their beanies. As this was an outdoor event, we needed something warm that wasn’t just another winter hat. Corduroy was an easy starting point with how popular those styles have been and our Sherpa Flap Hat seemed like the perfect blend of functionality and style. On warmer days, you can keep the ear flaps flipped up for more breathability while also having the option to flip them down to keep warm. For players in-between games and fans alike, this was great for hanging around the rinks spectating.

BlueChew was the primary sponsor of the event so we worked with their team as well for design approvals, color selects, etc. Will at APH was great to work with and the Flap Hats were a total hit.

Custom Winter Beanies

There is no better way to embrace the cold of the winter than a big ol’ party on the ice. The University of Okoboji Winter Games hosts more than 100,000 people annually to participate in (or watch from the sidelines for those who don’t want to be in the thick of the action) more than 24 different events over the weekend.

Our role was to design custom cabin beanies for the festival that kept attendees warm in the chilly temps and highlighted the bright colors of the event's branding.
