Local MN Favorites Ep: 3

Kind Lips

Every now and then we like highlighting cool people / companies right here in our hometown. We sat down with Josh, owner of Kind Lips and office neighbors with us.

What was the inspiration behind starting Kind Lips?
What was the inspiration behind starting Kind Lips?
Kind Lips lip balm was inspired by my desire to make a positive impact in the world while also providing a product that uses the highest quality ingredients and promotes kindness and positivity.

I came up with the idea to start a lip balm company and told my Mother about it. The same night she had a dream and called me the following morning to tell it to me. I said some mean thing to my sister in the dream and for my punishment, I had to write “the law of kindness is on my lips” 50 times and every time I wrote out the sentence, the words Kind and Lips elevated off the page. As she recanted the dream, I knew instantly that lip balm goes on our lips and then our words pass back thru and that each tube was a reminder to speak kind words.
Tell us more about your mission to end bullying.

I knew when I started Kind Lips that I wanted a large portion (20%) of its profits to actually go towards ending bullying. We wanted to put our $ where our mouth is so to speak. As the business has evolved and we have had more experience donating and working in the school systems, we are exploring ways to not only contribute financially, but also with our actions.

Our mission is rooted in the belief that small acts of kindness can create a ripple effect. Through our lip balm products and advocacy efforts, we aim to spread awareness about the harmful effects of bullying and empower individuals to stand up against it.

How have you been making an impact with your school programs?
How have you been making an impact with your school programs?
The school program has been the most fun and fulfilling part of Kind Lips for me. To see and hear about the impact a little tube of lip balm can have is really amazing! The program consists of videos and materials that promote being kind to yourself as well as your classmates.

I’ve learned from experience that when I can truly love myself, the kindness I share with others is way more genuine and I am also less impacted by others' opinions. I want the students to learn that at 10 years of age and not when they are in their 30s and 40s.
What’s next on your roadmap?

MN is home for me and I love it so much! I want MN to become known as being the most kind state in the country. No more MN nice:). The word nice comes from a French word that means foolish. The word Kind is an Old English word that comes from Kin and means Family.

I think of MN as one big family and i want to do everything i can to make MN the absolute best state to live in. So be on the lookout for MN Kind!
